Zanu pf, the illegitimate party that is responsible for the prevailing food insecurity crisis has grossly miscalculated the extent to which it can acquire and retain power indefinitely by means of exploiting and deceiving vulnerable households through food handouts, such as mealie meal, as was the case in Bindura towards the by-elections. It is the pestilential Zanu pf that is responsible for this food insecurity, especially if one is to consider its populist politics which resulted in the fast tracked, chaotic land grabbing program or sprees.

In a bid to retain power, gain the support of short sighted, gullible war veterans who were now flirting with the opposition, paranoid and illegitimate Zanu pf decided to buy more time for plundering, looting and predation by embarking on the referenced fast tracked, chaotic land grabbing program or sprees. This is because emotionally charged people who in gratitude would vote for the illegitimate Zanu pf, with no financing, experience or interest in farming, were to get land. The consequences were obvious. Although the pestilential Zanu pf was able to buy time, the deceived populace was to pay the ultimate price, food insecurity.

The country thus had to export, and depend on donors, or nongovernmental organizations such as the World Food Program, World Vision, just like countries that are warzones. The reason for the food insecurity, populism, has not only been responsible for the prevailing food crisis that Zanu pf tried to exploit in the last elections, but has also been responsible for property and human rights violations, mutilation of the supreme law of the land, all of which served to flag the now paralyzed state as extremely hostile to capital. As a country flagged to be extremely hostile to capital, owing to blatant human and property rights violations, there was no capital available to be ploughed in agriculture, for instance to modernize and equip it to modern standards.

This dearth of capital to be invested in agriculture meant the gradual death of the agricultural sector, thus perpetuating food insecurity, thus leaving every three out of five households vulnerable to the scathing food insecurity, which the illegitimate Zanu pf miscalculated as a situation ripe for exploitation, a misperceived plump, low hanging fruit. However, the vigilant people failed to fall for illegitimate Zanu pf deceptions and manipulations. In apparent anger, the donated maize meal was recovered. The people will not forget come 2023.
